Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC)

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) contains the minimum number of credits (40) needed to complete the general education requirement at all Minnesota public colleges and universities. These credits are organized into 10 specific goal areas, and students must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in these courses.

At Northland Community & Technical College, the MnTC courses are designed to be accepted by other institutions within the Minnesota State system, meaning they will transfer easily. If you have questions or need more information about the MnTC or the Liberal Arts program, it’s a good idea to reach out to an advisor or a Transfer Specialist for guidance.

Associate of Arts (AA) Degree Transfer

The Liberal Arts program at Northland offers the first two years of study for most bachelor’s degrees at a four-year university, making it easier for students to transfer later on. If you earn an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from Northland, you can smoothly transition into the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. This degree is generally recognized by most colleges outside of Minnesota as well.

To complete the AA degree, you need to earn a total of 60 credits. Out of these, 40 credits must be from coursework that meets the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC), and you’ll need to maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 in those classes. The remaining 20 credits can come from MnTC courses or general education subjects not included in the MnTC, with a maximum of 16 credits from technical courses allowed.

If you have a specific major in mind at a particular university, it’s a good idea to choose elective courses that align with that major. Additionally, you might want to check out our Associate of Arts Transfer Pathway options for more guidance.
