Frequently Asked Questions

A proctored test is a test that is administered in a secure environment under the direct supervision of an approved professional (proctor). Your teacher will determine which tests require a proctor and which proctors are approved.

Proctors are individuals responsible for ensuring academic integrity for all exams administered for Northland and other Minnesota State & non-Minnesota State campuses through careful test administration and monitoring.

Proctors have unbiased relationships with students to ensure honesty and security of all exams.

Instructors typically ask students to identify and submit proctor information. Students utilizing Northland as proctors would either submit Northland EGF Proctors or Northland TRF Proctors, as the staff are all recognized as acceptable proctors and testing environments.

Instructors typically ask students to identify and submit proctor information. Students utilizing Northland as proctors would either submit Northland EGF Proctors or Northland TRF Proctors, as the staff are all recognized as acceptable proctors and testing environments.

Contact your instructor to request a change in proctor (subject to Instructor Policy). If granted, contact an alternative proctor for approval by your instructor. Your instructor will then ensure the new proctor location has the pertinent testing materials. This process must be completed well in advance of test due dates.

A proctor is a non-relative, family friend, counselor, etc. Northland College proctors are qualified and may be selected as a credible proctor site and staff.

Instructors typically note on the course syllabus the length allowed for each exam. Schedule your appointments according to that time amount. Exams that take longer than the scheduled time may be asked to stop to enable testers to complete their exams on time.

Students running late may have the option to test, providing they can complete the exam within the scheduled time. Students will need to reschedule, possibly within the same date, pending availability.

At the end of each semester, the Testing Center will shred any remaining exam materials not completed unless asked to do differently by the instructor prior.

Each campus testing area has lockers where students must turn off all electronic devices and store them in the lockers along with purses, backpacks, books, etc.

Each session is monitored via video/audio and is recorded in the event that a review is needed.

Proctors conduct a random walk-through through the appointments and maintain a no-talking testing atmosphere.
