Requirements for Northland Social Accounts
It’s important to keep a consistent brand for your social media.
Social Handles
When creating a name for your unit’s social media profile, make sure it’s easy to find. You can use one of the following formats: “northland,” “northlandctc,” or for sports teams, “northlandpioneers,” followed by your unit’s name. If you have a new social media handle in mind, please get in touch with brand@northlandcollege.edu to get it approved before moving forward.
Profile Images
Take advantage of social media platforms’ most used and powerful feature: the news feed. This is where 99% of audiences see your posts, so your profile image should be simple, clear, and recognizable as a Northland page.
We have created a library of “N monogram” social profile images that can be downloaded from the Digital Asset Library:
- Formatted for: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube
- Categorized by color: Space Navy, Horizon Red, Flight Blue, Shuttle White, and Frontier Silver
Social Media Strategy
Social media is a strategic tool for communications when aligned with your overall communications strategy. To help streamline new accounts, a Social Media Strategy Worksheet must be completed before requesting a new account.

Best Practices for Social
- Avoid text-heavy graphics.
- Keep your text as short as possible. Posts between 40 and 80 characters perform best.
- Utilize your website, and link to it if needed.
- When sharing college-wide updates or information, share the post made by the original source instead of creating a competing post.
