Course Description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of operative procedures across all surgical specialties. Emphasis will be on the integration of pathophysiology, anatomy, and surgical technique, including minimally invasive and traditional approaches. Students will examine disease processes and their surgical treatments. The course covers operative sequences, instrumentation, supplies, medications, and wound classifications. Learners will also develop professional communication skills and understand the roles of surgical team members. Through didactic instruction, students will gain the foundational knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary for effective participation in the surgical clinical experience.
