Northland drops mask mandate for students, employees, and visitors inside campus facilities.
Approximately 700 graduates will be recognized during graduation celebrations on May 12th and 13th.
April 25, 2022 — The traditional jubilation of graduation will be on full display for the Class of 2022 and their families and guests during Northland Community & Technical College's Spring Commencement. For the first time in two years, Northland will hold in-person graduations to honor more than 700 graduates during two campus ceremonies. The Thief River Falls campus will celebrate its ceremony on Thursday, May 12, in the Northland gymnasium at 6:30 p.m., with a reception to follow in the Gunderson Commons. Northland's East Grand Forks campus will hold its ceremony on Friday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in the Chester Fritz Auditorium, Grand Forks, ND.
“Our students have persevered through the last two years of their coursework with tenacity and innovation, and we are privileged to be able to celebrate this milestone in person with them, their families, and friends,” expressed Northland President Sandy Kiddoo. “These students are why Northland exists and their success is our number one priority. Their monumental accomplishments deserve to be celebrated by our communities.”
This year, the ceremony will return to the in-person format from before the pandemic, allowing students the chance to celebrate face-to-face. The class of 2022 was one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of this class took nearly all of their classes online or in a hybrid format. “Students from this class embody the true Pioneer spirit. They persevered in unchartered waters, participated in lectures from home, and trialed remote lab exercises in courses not originally designed for distance learning, all under ever-changing conditions brought on by the pandemic,” Kiddoo shared. “Their tenacity will forever change the face of higher ed as we look to permanently implement the good practices developed during this time.”
Chancellor Devinder Malhotra will represent Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and will speak at both ceremonies to celebrate the class of 2022.
Friends, family members, and the general public who are unable to attend commencement are invited to watch the ceremonies via live stream through the college website.
