August 19, 2022 – Northland Community & Technical College looks forward to welcoming new and returning students back to campus for the fall semester beginning August 22.
Extended Hours
Northland is expanding access to students that need help with admissions, enrollment, and financial aid with extended hours every Tuesday through September 6. On Tuesdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., student services staff will be on-hand to assist new and returning students.
“We know how exciting and stressful coming back to college can be,” explains Jeff Pool, Northland’s Dean of Academic Affairs. “We are hoping that these extended hours will help ensure that students are able to take care of any last minute business, whether it is double-checking class schedules, making changes, getting their student ID, or having a staff member go over the dollars and cents of their financial aid. Students can call ahead to make an appointment or stop in at either campus.”
Welcome Week
Welcome Week will kick off the fall semester, August 22-25, with daily events including lunch, bingo, ice cream social, breakfast, contests, and giveaways. Students will have the chance to network with student organizations, discover leadership opportunities, and explore Northland services and departments.
New Faces at Northland
As Northland’s President Sandy Kiddoo celebrates the beginning of her second academic year, she is welcoming some new and familiar faces into new positions in Northland’s administration.
Jeff Pool joined Northland as Dean of Academic Affairs in August. Pool comes to the college from Minnesota State University Mankato, where he was the Director of Transfer Partnerships and Outreach Coordinator for Partnerships and Collaboration. Prior to that position, he served as Coordinator of Veterans and Military Student Services at Metro State University and Anoka-Ramsey since 2010.
Two internal moves have veteran staff filling temporary positions. Jodi Stauss, who previously served as Dean of Health, Public Services, and Technical Programs, has taken the role of Interim Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Stephanie LeDuc has been tapped to replace Stauss as Interim Dean of Health, Public Services, and Technical Programs. LeDuc was previously an instructor in Northland’s Business programs. A search will commence later next year for a permanent replacement for the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs position.
New Spaces & Partnerships
The fall semester marks the beginning of Northland’s new satellite site in Warroad, MN, as the college brings its mechatronics program to the area. Northland has partnered with Marvin to launch this program to support the region’s immediate need for advanced manufacturing skills. Marvin donated and renovated the Warroad facility to serve as the program’s new home. The Advanced Resource Center for Innovation and Education (ARC) is located near the Marvin facility.
Esports Launch
This year, Esports joins Northland’s athletics lineup. Rather than rackets and bats, members will use video consoles to mash, peel and speed-boost their way to the top in this inclusive, co-ed sport, featuring video game tournaments held face-to-face and virtually. Practice space and an arena are being configured on both of Northland’s campuses.
