Start Your College Era at Northland EXPO
Northland EXPO brings 10th–12th grade students to campus for a hands‑on, immersive look at real college programs. Students rotate through faculty‑led breakout sessions and experience what learning looks like in fields like healthcare, manufacturing, IT, business, transportation, and more.
EXPO is designed to help students:

EXPO Schedule
A consistent schedule helps schools plan confidently. Breakout sessions are 40 minutes, giving students meaningful time in each program area.

Session topics vary by program and may include hands‑on labs, equipment demonstrations, simulations, or guided discussions.
Breakout Sessions
Every EXPO breakout session gives students a hands‑on look at what learning in each field feels like. Sessions are led by Northland faculty, and each program shapes its own experience based on facilities, equipment, and instructional style.
What Students Experience
- Hands‑on activities using real tools, equipment, or software
- Live demonstrations that show how skills are applied in the field
- Interactive discussions about careers, pathways, and industry demand
- Exploration of labs, shops, and learning spaces
- Opportunities to ask questions and connect with faculty
Some sessions are activity‑based, others are demonstration‑focused, and some are discussion‑driven — but all are designed to help students explore careers and understand what learning looks like at Northland.
Career Exploration Booths
During lunch — and during natural downtime throughout the day — students can explore Career Exploration Booths located in hallways near program labs. Local employers share tools, equipment, and real‑world skills connected to the programs students are experiencing. Students can also learn about career opportunities, starting wages, education and training requirements, and how different pathways lead to jobs in our region.
For Teachers & Counselors
To support smooth planning and coordination, here’s what schools can expect:
- Audience: EXPO is designed for students in grades 10–12.
- Arrival & Check‑In: Staff greet buses and guide groups to registration.
- Group Rotations: Students move through sessions in small groups.
- Chaperones: Teachers accompany groups throughout the day.
- Lunch: Northland provides lunch for all students and chaperones. Groups may also explore Career Exploration Booths during this time.
- Accessibility: Northland provides accessible facilities and accommodations.
- Departure: Groups gather for photos and final check‑out before boarding buses.
