Program specifics about earning a UAS & Geospatial Applications Certificate at Northland.

Program Description

Not financial aid eligible. The UAS and Geospatial Applications Certificate will concentrate on the operations and imagery interpretation principles of small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS). Students will develop skills which will allow the use of sUAS to support industries such as agriculture, food, and natural resources; civil services such as law enforcement and emergency search and rescue; transportation and city planning. This program is designed to prepare students to analyze, interpret, and communicate vital information collected using sUAS and present it in a professional and comprehensive manner to decision makers in both the government and civilian sectors.

Program Learner Outcomes

  1. Student will identify the components of Unmanned Aerial Systems
  2. Student will explain the concepts involved in creating a three-dimensional imagery model.
  3. Student will calculate geometric measurements of objects or terrain features within imagery using photogrammetric techniques.
  4. Student will utilize understanding and integration of different systems in the exploitation of processed imagery and data resources to create a Geospatial Report utilizing integrated GEOINT products
  5. Student will demonstrate appropriate risk management based on the aeronautical decision-making process.
  6. Student will explain, identify, describe, or demonstrate the areas of operations as outlined in the FAA Private Pilot practical test standards.
  7. Student will explain basic aerodynamic principles and aircraft performance characteristics.
