Certificate

The Industrial Mechanics Certificate prepares students for technical jobs in the manufacturing industry. Today’s manufacturing companies strive to minimize downtime and maximize machine efficiency to increase productivity. This certificate provides an overview of the mechanical systems used in the manufacturing industry. Mechanical power transmission, machining basics, metal fabrication, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems will be introduced. The Mechanical Certificate is designed to assist area manufacturing companies with their training needs as well as any students interested in acquiring mechanical skills. Courses in this program emphasize hands-on training on industrial automated equipment in a flexible schedule lab environment.

Learner Outcomes

1. Students will wear appropriate personal protective equipment for a given task.
2. Students will follow the standards for lockout-tagout when working on industrial equipment.
3. Students will complete various operations using fabrication equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
4. Students will analyze mechanical systems to determine integral parameters including force, distance, torque, friction, and speeds.
5. Students will troubleshoot and maintain mechanical power transmission systems.
6. Students will be able to interpret electric, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics accurately.
7. Student will troubleshoot electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic systems.
