Course Description
(Fulfills MNTC Areas: 5, 8) This is an interdisciplinary course designed to introduce the students to the basic concepts of global studies. The class will examine the dynamics of change in global systems, both in the past and at present, from natural and social perspectives. The class will explore the root causes global changes, the real and possible effects of these changes, and how we deal with changes in both local and global settings. The main objective of the course is to provide the student with a foundation from which to pursue further studies on related topics and to become aware of the growing interconnectedness of our global society by reviewing topics such as global politics, human rights, the natural environment, population, disease, gender, information technology, war, and peace. In addition, the course will also develop communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills particular to the subject of global studies.
