GRAND FORKS — Northland Community and Technical College this summer is introducing a new training program focused on composites manufacturing.
Northland hopes to integrate the training into its academic programs, as well as work with companies for non-credit professional development, said Kirsten Michalke, dean of workforce development and aerospace campus.
“I think we’ll be a nice regional hub, hopefully, for professional development,” she said.
Northland received a $215,000 grant from IACMI-The Composites Institute (The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation)to host free, weeklong boot camps through America’s Cutting Edge, a national workforce training initiative managed by IACMI. The boot camps will use the same equipment and technology found in modern manufacturing facilities and combine classroom learning with hands-on training. The first boot camp is being held July 13-17 and is open to high school students 16 and older, college students and those already working in the industry.
