Northland to welcome freshman and transfer students with Pioneer Preview new student orientation

East Grand Forks campus session will take place on Aug. 8, and in Thief River Falls on Aug. 9.

July 26, 2018 – Northland Community and Technical College is again offering new, incoming students and their families the opportunity to learn more about the college campuses during its Pioneer Preview New Student Orientation events on Aug. 8 and 9. This marks the second year of Pioneer Preview at NCTC.

The East Grand Forks campus orientation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and the Thief River Falls campus orientation on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018. Each session will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a lunch and campus tours to follow.

Pioneer Preview is the College’s overall effort to ensure that new students are well prepared for the journey toward academic excellence and personal development at NCTC. In addition to learning about NCTC’s admissions and registration functions and registering for fall classes, new students can meet student leaders and academic advisers, get a closer look at the College’s 80-plus degree and certificate programs, make connections with fellow students, and learn about student life and organizations.

Staff will be available to set the groundwork for student success and will cover a range of essential topics including financial aid, scholarships, academic support, advisement, tuition, housing and IT technical support.

“The overall goal of the orientation is to prepare students for the transition into college and assist with any questions or concerns they may have before the start of the semester,” said Nicki Carlson, Director of Enrollment Management and Admissions. “Staff will be available to set the groundwork for student success and will cover a range of essential topics including financial aid, scholarships, academic support, advisement, tuition, housing and IT technical support.”

The orientation sessions are meant to be a fun and informative way to help students get familiar with the campus and help ease personal, social and emotional adjustments that students often experience when transitioning to college life. Pioneer Preview is open to all incoming freshman and transfer students looking to learn more about their upcoming academic experience.

We hope to ease those concerns by creating a welcoming and informative event that helps with getting our new students ready to hit the ground running right from the start.

“We understand the natural nervousness new students and their parents, spouses, and families can have when entering college,” said Jason Pangiarella, Coordinator of Student Life & Success. “We hope to ease those concerns by creating a welcoming and informative event that helps with getting our new students ready to hit the ground running right from the start. This in-person, on-campus orientation will be critical to set up our freshmen for a successful year.”

Parents and family members also are encouraged to attend; and special sessions have been designed specifically with parents in mind, giving them an opportunity to meet and ask questions of faculty and staff. Family members can attend at no additional cost.

Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, go to www.northlandcollege.edu/pioneerpreview or call (218) 683-8800.

Before registering for orientation, students need to have already applied for admission to NCTC and met testing requirements. If a student has not yet applied for the Fall semester, there still is time. Apply online or stop by an NCTC campus to complete an application.

NCTC’s Fall semester classes will begin Monday, Aug. 27.
