Northland Community & Technical College Automotive Service Technology Program earns national ASE accreditation

Recognition highlights both the quality of education, as well as the preparedness of Northland graduates entering the workforce.

Northland Community & Technical College recently completed an on-site evaluation by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Northland’s Automotive Service Technology Program (A.A.S. degree) excelled under rigorous scrutiny from the ASE Education Foundation, earning the highest level of program accreditation — Master Automobile Service Technology Accreditation.

The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit, independent organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry. Northland first earned ASE certification in 1998.

“We work closely with the ASE Education Foundation to ensure our program not only meets but exceeds strict industry standards,” said Mark Johnson, program instructor. “We teach all ASE tasks and more that have been recommended by our advisory committee.”

The accreditation attests to the high-quality education offered at Northland and assures local shop owners and employers that Northland grads are top-tier technicians trained in modern equipment and practices.

“Beyond our accreditation, we continue to be a leader in Minnesota with technical education in a quickly evolving world,” Johnson continued. “For example, we were one of the first programs in the state to adapt our program by offering hybrid course delivery training. It allows more students the opportunity to fit classes and training into their busy schedules. In our program, students are not just a number… they become family.”

More about ASE

ASE accreditation recognizes nationally accepted standards of excellence in instruction, training facilities and equipment. As an ASE accredited program, Northland students are trained in the many service and diagnostic procedures necessary to maintain vehicles of all sizes and shapes, using modern laboratories equipped with current service and testing equipment. It’s a seal of approval many employers actively seek out.

“This program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, giving added assurance that Northland’s graduates will be highly-skilled technicians ready for work on day one,” said Michael Coley, ASE Education Foundation President.
