September 17, 2020 – Northland Community & Technical College proudly announces the recipients of the fall 2020 Northland Community & Technical College Foundation scholarships. As part of its mission to enhance the educational experience of students, the Northland Foundation offers scholarship opportunities semi-annually to current and incoming students. With the generous support and investments from individuals and local businesses, the Northland Foundation distributes over $150,000 annually in scholarships. One hundred thirty-six scholarships worth nearly $57,000 were awarded to students during the fall semester.
Scholarship distribution is at the heart of the Northland Foundation’s mission, and under normal circumstances, the Foundation would hold a public ceremony to celebrate our recipients and acknowledge our contributors. However, in consideration of the restrictions on attendance numbers, the fall ceremony will be postponed until the spring when all recipients for the year can be celebrated.
“This year is significant because if you combine our fall scholarships totaling nearly $60,000, spring semester foundation scholarships expected to exceed $70,000, our Dept. of Agriculture New Farmer Scholarships over $63,000, and the Workforce Development Scholarships from the State of Minnesota at over $180,000, our students at Northland will be receiving over $370,000 in scholarship funds!’ exclaimed Lars Dyrud, Northland Foundation Executive Director. “That doesn’t even include scholarships students receive from their hometown organizations and other community groups. It’s wonderful to see so much support going to our students at a time in their lives when they often need it the most. Thank you to all of our contributors who make this possible!”
“The foundation is currently focused on raising funds for our online students since we are seeing an increase in online enrollment,” continued Dyrud, “Most of our donations have been earmarked for students at one campus or the other, leaving our online students with very few scholarship opportunities. We currently have an online campaign to raise $5,000 for online student scholarships by November 1 on GiveCampus, a crowdfunding platform used by colleges.”
