The sUAS diploma will concentrate on the maintenance, operations and applications of small unmanned aircraft systems to include: electronics, computer hardware, local area networks, understanding the function of data links or the communication/guidance system between vehicle and control interfaces and within the sUAS and conducting safe flight operations in the National Airspace System. Courses are designed to create a skilled sUAS Field Service Technician with a broad understanding of sUAS at the functional and operational level.

Program Learner Outcomes

1. The student will identify the components of Unmanned Aerial Systems.
2. The student will define OSHA safety standards and safety principles utilized in the aircraft maintenance work environment.
3. The student will demonstrate basic understanding of AC and DC circuit terminology and the relationship in basic circuit operations.
4. The student will demonstrate proper use and function of test equipment for the operations and maintenance of aircraft equipment and components including but not limited to oscilloscopes, frequency generators, radio frequency (RF) power meters and multi-meters.
5. The student will describe computer hardware diagnostic procedures.
6. The student will employ computer maintenance principles.
7. The student will describe and install the hardware and software required to be able to communicate across a network.
8. The student will describe the topologies and physical issues associated with copper wire, microwave, optical fiber, and satellite links.
9. Reference programming manuals, sample programs, and data sheets to solve programming and troubleshooting problems.
