Assessment for Course Placement
Multiple Measures Assessment are the evaluation tools used for student placement into appropriate college courses.
Please review the order in which Northland determines course placement:
1. High School GPA
A cumulative high school GPA of 2.8 or higher and the completion of Algebra II with an average of C- or better is college-level ready in math. A cumulative high school GPA of 2.6 or higher is college ready in reading/writing. High school transcripts and/or GED are valid for 10 years.
2. ACT, SAT & MCA Score Minimums
When ACT, SAT, and MCA scores are available; students will be advised about their course placement options. ACT, SAT, and MCA scores are valid for 5 years inclusive of the current calendar year.
The scores below indicate the student is ready for college-level courses.

When using Accuplacer scores for placement, students may take the following classes depending on their score. Accuplacer scores are valid for five calendar years, inclusive of the current calendar year, for reading and writing and within two calendar years, inclusive of the current calendar year, for mathematics.
