Program specifics about earning an Englilsh Transfer Pathway A.A. Degree at Northland.

The English Transfer Pathway (AA) offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an (Associate of Arts) degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated English bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities.* The curriculum has been specifically​y designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status.  All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.

*Universities within the Minnesota State system include Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

Northland Community & Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Program Learner Outcomes

  1. Students will perform close analysis of literature at an introductory level.
  2. Students will demonstrate knowledge of major critical frameworks at an introductory level.
  3. Students will employ major critical frameworks to analyze literature at an introductory level.
  4. Students will incorporate and document secondary sources at an introductory level.
  5. Students will demonstrate knowledge of canonical works of British/American literature.
  6. Students will demonstrate knowledge of major genres and styles in British/American literature.
  7. Students will demonstrate knowledge of major periods and historical developments in British/American literature.
  8. Students will demonstrate knowledge of literature of under-represented populations.
  9. Students will demonstrate understanding of canon formation as a reflection of historical, social, and cultural contexts.
  10. Students will demonstrate discipline-specific knowledge of audience and rhetorical situations.
  11. Students will create discipline-specific documents that employ effective techniques for specific writing situations.
  12. Students will engage in guided revision and/or writing workshops.
