Open Enrollment: Effective January 2, 2014 the State of Minnesota mandates that pilot/escort drivers escorting over dimensional loads in the state be trained and hold a current Minnesota Department of Public Safety Certification. Classes are offered as open enrollment classes throughout the state and as contract classes with individual companies and organizations.
Advanced registration is required.
Register for the 8-hour certification class if you are a Pilot Car Driver with an expired Minnesota certification, have never been licensed, or were licensed in another state.
The certification is valid for four years. Upon expiration, you are able to extend your license for one additional four-year period by completing the 4-hour re-certification course within 90 days of expiration. When that four-year renewal license expires, the full 8-hour certification is required again.
