Peer tutors in the Academic Success Center assist and coach other students to become more successful and independent learners. They provide individual and/or group tutoring sessions both scheduled and walk-in. A peer tutor is a guide, assisting students to become successful by promoting effective study strategies, supporting the instructor's course content and assignments, and coaching students to maximize potential academic progress. -Tutor assigned students (tutees) -Create and maintain schedule -Make referrals across campus as needed -Maintain accurate and up-to-date records -Attend and complete tutor training -Develop strong understanding of college services, supports, and resources -Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information

Requirements

A tutor should have attained a strong passing score (A or B) in any subject(s) he or she desires to tutor as well as a recommendation from a faculty or staff. A tutor must have strong communication skills, professional and reliable behavior at all times, and ease in working with people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds. A weekly schedule including appointments and/or walk-ins may increase in hours as student requests increase. Peer Tutors typically work between 2-15 hours a week. An brief interview with the Director of the Academic Success Center is required. Most tutors are hired through the Federal Work-Study Program and a FAFSA application must be submitted and approved prior to hiring.
