Ray Kuznia Named Alumnus of the Year

The Graduation Committee of Northland Community and Technical Colleges Thief River Falls campus has recently announced its 2011 Alumni of the Year selections. Ray Kuznia, Darryl Tveitbakk, and Shane Zutz, all of Thief River Falls, share Alumni of the Year honors.

Ray Kuznia is a 1987 graduate of the Northland Community College Law Enforcement program. While at Northland, he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Kuznia went on to complete his skills program at Hibbing Technical College. He has completed numerous trainings, including certified open water diver and certified ice diver. He has been an instructor for Snowmobile, Boat & Water Safety and also Gun Safety. Kuznia is a certified D.A.R.E. instructor and has served in that capacity for Pennington County for 20 years.

Kuznia was hired as a patrol deputy for Pennington County in 1987. He was appointed chief deputy/investigator and welfare fraud investigator in 1991. In 1992 Kuznia was appointed acting sheriff, and he was elected as sheriff of Pennington County in November 2010. His professional associations include the Minnesota Sheriffs Association, Minnesota D.A.R.E. Officer Association, Police Chief Association, and Welfare Fraud Investigators Association.

Kuznia is actively involved in the community and was a past board member for the Discovery Place Day Care Center and member of the Northwest Medical Center Foundation. He is a member of the Knights of Colombus, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Elks, Eagles, and the Thief River Falls Snow Drifters and Newfolden/Middle River Drift Skippers, both snowmobile clubs.

Ray and his wife Jodi have two children, Chantel and Blake. Blake is a student at Lincoln High School and Chantel is attending Northland Community and Technical College.

Alumnus of the Year nominees are submitted by faculty, employees, and alumni of NCTC TRF and compiled and announced by the Campus Graduation Committee.
