Pioneer Athletics Update - Oct 29, 2013

Pioneer Football
Congratulations to the Pioneer Football team on with a big win in the MCAC Quarterfinals. In the semi-finals the teams will cross bracket. Northland #1 in the North will play #2 Central Lakes from the South. This game will be played at Northland at 1 PM on Saturday, November 2nd. In the other bracket, Rochester #1 in the South will host Vermilion at 2 PM. The winners of these games will play for the MCAC State Championship which will be played at St. Cloud State on Sunday, November 10th with the time to TBD.

The Pioneer Volleyball team is currently 21W 7L overall and 11W 2L in the MCAC North. Currently 2nd place in the division and ranked #6 in the Nation.

Last week Northland had wins on the road against Rainy River winning 3-1 and against Hibbing winning 3-1. The Pioneers will be hosting Fond du Lac this Wednesday for the last regular season game. They will start preparing for the Regional tournament which will be played in Brainerd at Central Lakes College on November 8th-9th.

Congratulations to Brittni Wellen who was named MCAC Libero of the Week and Allie Dorn who was MCAC All Around Player of the Week.
Brittni had 48 digs (6.0/game), 20+ in each match for Northland. Wellen did not allow a ball to drop without a touch and was also stellar from the serve line adding 10 aces (1.1) to her division leading total. Brittni is a sophomore from Baudette, MN.

Allie helped Northland (21-7, 11-2 North) win a pair of matches averaging 2.7 kills (.548 at-tack %), 1.5 digs, .75 blocks and .38 aces. Dorn also provides great on-floor leadership. She is a sophomore from Thief River Falls, MN.

Mens Basketball
The Pioneer Mens Basketball team starts this week on Saturday vs Red Lake Nation College at 6 PM. The game time was set for 2 PM but with the playoff football game on Saturday, the time was moved.

The Pioneer wrestling team will be having a Legends Wrestling scrimmage on Friday, November 1st starting at 7 PM. This will be a good time to take a look at the new athletic program and talk with the wrestlers and the staff about the upcoming season.

Special Events
Northland will be hosting Section 8A Volleyball tonight at 6 PM with WinEMac vs Kittson County Central and at 7:45 BGMR vs Northern Freeze. Admission is $6 for Adults and $4 for Students.
