Northland Community & Technical College’s entrepreneur program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Outreach & Innovation, Small Business Management program, and Academics. Our goal is to offer cutting edge entrepreneurship education. The certificate program is designed to meet the educational needs of business and entrepreneurship in Northwest Minnesota.

The entrepreneurship program is designed to deliver the education and information that businesses need. The program is delivered through a number of different methods and can be custom designed to meet the needs of your business. Students are able to complete classes while taking other education or training or continuing their employment.

Extreme Entrepreneur Tour


Northland Community & Technical College hosted the Extreme Entrepreneur Tour in October, 2008 to celebrate the new Entrepreneur certificate program on campus! Two hundred community members, high school students, college students, and faculty attended the four hour event held on the Thief River Falls campus.

Local entrepreneurs (Darcy Harbott, Matt Winjum, Arron Hendricks ) participated on the panel and shared their entrepreneurial experiences.

Women’s Entrepreneur Series

The Center for Outreach & Innovation at Northland Community & Technical College designed a five-session course for aspiring entrepreneurial women.

Session 1 : Vision Your Business: This session addresses the formulation of the business idea. What is a vision and how is it different from a mission? How do you define success? What are your financial and life goals? This experiential workshop will provide motivation and hands-on tools as you begin the entrepreneurial journey.

Session 2 : Business Practices: This session is based on becoming familiar with sound business practices as you develop your entrepreneurial idea. What record keeping practices do you need to establish and why? What kind of technology will help you grow your business?

Session 3 : Business Growth: This session gets into the “nitty-gritty” of business planning. Why do you need a business plan? How do you create reliable financial projections? How do you create marketing materials to reach your targets? Participants will be provided with a business plan template and will participate in a variety of workshop activities.

Session 4 : Building Your Team: It is important that you build a successful business team – whether you are hiring employees or are a sole proprietor. How do you attract the kinds of employees you want? How do you build a support team that fits you and your business> Find out how to make people work for and with you as you build your business.

Session 5 : Continuous Improvement: This final session will identify strategies that address the continued growth of your business. What can you do to keep your company improving? How does continuous improvement impact your growth> In addition, this session will provide an opportunity to review the next steps for your entrepreneurial journey.
