Light Equipment Operator

Job Description:  
Lincoln County invites applications for the position of Light Equipment Operator to perform skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work to maintain the County highway and bridge system, maintenance buildings, as well as related facilities and equipment for the Lincoln County Highway Department. This position may require night shifts during snow removal months. The 2018 hiring range for this position is $14.55 - $16.06 hourly with salary growth potential to $21.51 hourly.
Operate light equipment for a variety of purposes including hauling materials, preparing sites, leveling off areas, laying gravel, loading trees, filling out washout areas, cleaning out ditches, placing culverts, etc. Perform snow and ice removal procedures including operating snow plows, truck plows, and sanders, hauling snow, and spreading de-icing chemicals. Respond to emergency calls for repairs related to snow removal, tornados, floods, etc. Variety of labor tasks including but not limited to: installing and maintaining road signs, installing culverts, flagging traffic in work zones, removing debris from road ditches, cutting trees and brush, mixing and applying chemical applications to ditches to prevent and maintain weed spread, cleaning of Highway Department shop and grounds, servicing and repairing equipment and vehicles operated within the department fleet and any other job as assigned by the supervisor. Service and make minor repairs on all equipment operated, and purchase parts. Perform a variety of construction tasks where assigned and necessary to complete construction or maintenance work.
High school diploma or GED plus one year comparable experience to a Light Equipment Operator or comparable combination of education and experience. Offers of employment are contingent upon the ability to attain a Commercial Class A Drivers License (CDL) within 30 days of hire date and successful completion of a criminal background check, driving records check and pre-employment drug test. Must possess a valid drivers license and a safe driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Considerable knowledge of procedures, techniques and standards of highway and bridge maintenance. Equipment operation, repair and maintenance. Operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand and power tools. Proper handling and application of construction materials. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in the operation of light equipment. Broad understanding of the safety guidelines involved in the use of such tools, equipment, and materials. Ability to train co-workers in the operation, maintenance and repair of light equipment. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment common to automotive repair work. Basic computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Possession of a Class A CDL with hazardous materials endorsement. Knowledge of codes Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regulations. Previous experience in a similar work environment.
