Power System Operator Trainee

Job Description:  
Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking qualified applicants for a Power System Operator Trainee position located in our Grand Forks, ND offices. The position is responsible for gaining a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of System Operations through formal training courses, on-the-job training, field training, and self-study. Training is expected to be completed within 12 to 24 months after which the Trainee becomes a Certified Power System Operator whose responsibility is to direct and support the daily real-time operation of the regional electric system. This includes dispatch functions associated with responding to electrical outages, emergencies and other electrical service work.
A qualified applicant must have a minimal two-year technical education in electrical technology or equivalent, must be able to successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment and be able to perform shift work. Applicable experience is desired which includes the knowledge of electrical theory, electrical work, metering, relaying, or military experience. Applicants must be able to obtain NERC certification as a Balancing, Interchange, and Transmission operator or higher. The Minnkota program will train on the Bulk Electric System equipment and procedures as well as other courses necessary to attain this required NERC certification.
