Nature of Work:

Responsible for providing safe, reliable and friendly fixed route and commuter bus transportation services.

Examples of Work:

1. Operate a transit bus in moderate to heavy traffic, according to time schedules while complying with traffic regulations to ensure passengers have a smooth and safe ride.
2. Perform complete pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, safety checks equipment, and inform maintenance when adjustments or repairs are necessary.
3. Interact with coworkers, passengers and general public in a manner that promotes a positive public image.
4. Collect fares, make passenger stops at approved bus stop locations, maintain order on the bus and report delays or service interruptions.
5. Courteously and concisely provide clear and detailed route and schedule information in response to passenger questions.
6. Operate ramp and wheelchair lift and assist disabled passengers in boarding, securing mobility devices, and alighting safely.
7. Regulate heating, air conditioning, and lighting systems for passenger comfort.
8. Writes reports and completes forms as required concerning accidents, incidents, breakdowns and mechanical defects.
9. Availability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, early morning, and late nights.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences:

1. High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or Community College, business college or two years from a college or university preferred. Minimum five years satisfactory driving record. Ability to safely drive a transit vehicle in all traffic and weather conditions.
2. Valid MN drivers license required and ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License with air brake and
passenger endorsements. Above average motor vehicle record to maintain insurability.
3. Ability to pass essential functions test, pre-employment DOT physical certification, and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
4. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with co-workers, subordinates, and the general public and to handle all types of situations.
5. Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions and complete written reports.
6. Must be able to read and speak English clearly. Bilingual a plus.
7. Ability to gain general geographic knowledge of the St. Cloud Metropolitan area including the Northstar Highway 10 corridor and downtown Minneapolis

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

1. This position drives Fixed Route and commuter coach buses and spends majority of the time sitting with limited periods of standing and walking.
2. Moderate exposure to temperature extremes.
3. Utilizes personal computers, onboard fare and communications technologies, and two-way radio equipment on a regular basis.
