Facilities Specialist

Job Description:  
Minnkota Power is seeking qualified applicants for a Facilities Specialist located in Grand Forks, ND. The position is responsible for:

• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple HVAC and electrical systems
• Perform light carpentry and plumbing work throughout Minnkota campus
• Perform tasks to support fire, safety, and physical security systems and procedures
• Assist Building and Grounds Supervisor as needed

1. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple HVAC and electrical systems
• Maintain and service multiple HVAC units and associated systems
• Maintenance of boilers, air conditioners, chillers, generators and associated equipment
• Electrical maintenance, troubleshooting and assisting with electrical requirements for remodel projects

2. Perform light carpentry and plumbing work throughout Minnkota campus
• Install white boards, name plaques, hang pictures
• Adjust door closers, and other types of construction duties and repairs as assigned
• Perform light plumbing work such as replacing water filters and repairing/replacing valves and sump pumps and other plumbing tasks as assigned
• Required to use many types of hand and power tools

3. Perform tasks to support fire, safety, and physical security systems and procedures
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on physical security systems including gates, fences, electronic door access and video surveillance systems
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on fire systems
• Changing key cores on door hardware
• Coordinating electronic door and gate access schedules, performing minor repairs on physical security system components
• Escorting non-Minnkota personnel that are required to perform repair or service work at Minnkota

4. Assist Building and Grounds Supervisor as needed
• Respond to calls for repair or service outlined in help desk tickets, including call outs after normal working hours
• Housekeeping duties for secure areas or when janitors are not available
• Check paper supplies and empty trash receptacles when needed
• Maintain and repair exterior building and grounds features and components including lighting, hard surfaces, storm water management systems, utilities, trash receptacles
• Work with personnel to develop operating procedures/programs
• Maintain records of activities as required
• Direct and monitor the work of on-site contractors
• Provide support for special events occurring within facility
• Assist in project management responsibilities
• Efficiently organizing and scheduling work assignments

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Education and Training
Individual must have completed a two year vocational/technical course related to electrical technology, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, or related fields. Certification or eligibility to attain a “Master” certificate, an HVAC certificate, and a boiler operator’s certificate/license is desirable.
Be able to read, write and understand instruction manuals and blueprints. Have five or more years experience in building maintenance. Individual must be able to undertake strenuous physical activity to include regular handling of tools and materials and meet the physical and mental requirements of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
• Must maintain a valid drivers license.
• Individual must have effective leadership, organizational and project management skills
• Individual must have effective communication skills
• Ability to use a wide assortment of power tools
• Ability to work from a variety of utility lift devices such as ladders, scaffold, forklifts, small booms and bucket trucks
• Interpretation of safety standards to determine applicability to Minnkota
• Understands Minnkotas values and promotes diversity

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend and frequently utilize a keyboard/computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be required to problem solve, read, write and analyze data, work under schedules and deadline pressure, present information to others, work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors, and will travel to multiple indoor and outdoor locations including work sites and industrial sites dependent on work.
