1. Minnesota Department of Human Services Licensing Division Background study must be completed upon program entry and annually thereafter. Evidence of approval to provide healthcare must be on file prior to entering FIRE courses. The Fire Suppression Technician certificate prepares students to perform lead firefighter and apparatus operator functions. Students learn firefighter techniques, company functions, hazardous materials functions, and emergency medical procedures. Teamwork is emphasized throughout the program. The employment outlook for firefighters in the state of Minnesota from 2006 to 2016 is 10.6%, an average growth percentage.
