Fire Suppression Technician

Program Specific Requirements

1. Minnesota Department of Human Services Licensing Division Background study must be completed upon program entry and annually thereafter. Evidence of approval to provide healthcare must be on file prior to entering FIRE courses.
2. Current CPR for Health Care Providers (AHA) certification is required prior to EMTB1100.
3. All required courses for the program must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
4. Immunization and health screening data must be submitted on the college Health Screening Form prior to enrollment in FIRE courses.
5. All students must have structural firefighting personal protective equipment, which consists of a helmet, protective hood, coat, pants, gloves, and boots.

Program Description

The Fire Suppression Technician certificate prepares students to perform lead firefighter and apparatus operator functions. Students learn firefighter techniques, company functions, hazardous materials functions, and emergency medical procedures. Teamwork is emphasized throughout the program.

Program Learner Outcomes

1. Student will perform professional firefighting skills as outlined in the National Fire Protection Association standards.

4. Student will execute hazardous materials response skills safely as outlined in National Fire Protection Associate standards.
5. Student will use appropriate emergency management skills in firefighting situations.
6. Student will operate and maintain fire apparatus and fire equipment properly as outlined in the National Fire Protection Association standards.
7. Student will demonstrate professional characteristics, behaviors, and attutides as expected in the firefighting field.
