Commuter bus lines are starting this week and next in Northwest Minnesota, and the agency providing the service wants to hear from potential users. The Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, headquartered in Crookston, started running their first commuter route Thursday, February 5th. That route starts out in Crookston at 5:30 in the morning with stops at Marcoux, Red Lake Falls, and St. Hilaire before dropping commuters off at destinations in Thief River Falls at 6:45 a.m. A return route will leave Thief River Falls in the 3:00 hour.
Routes with similar timeframes will run starting next week from Oslo, Alvarado, and Warren as well as Oklee, Brooks, and Plummer, terminating in Thief River Falls. Other routes will serve Crookston, Fisher, and Grand Forks, the Highway 2 west corridor from Fosston to Crookston, and Twin Valley and Fertile into Crookston.
Michael Frisch is the transportation manager for Tri-Valley. He stressed that it's important that anyone interested in using the service contact Tri-Valley with their specific needs because the service can be tailored and fine-tuned to work for the most people possible. The effort is funded in part by Federal and State grants, and ticket prices are available at a discount if a weeklong pass is purchased. Contact Tri-Valley at 800-201-3432 or commuter@tvoc.org with your specific commute needs. The website is located here.
We hope to schedule a morning interview with Mr. Frisch next week as the routes start to run.
