THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN. (January 24, 2006) - Students in Kristina Keller’s Principles of Marketing course completed a service learning project fall semester for Pioneer 90.1 in Thief River Falls. Pioneer 90.1 is the college-community radio service of Northland Community and Technical College, reaching Thief River Falls, the Grand Cities, Crookston, Fosston, Warren and Red Lake Falls.

Students were divided into teams, each preparing a marketing plan for the radio station. Each group worked closely with the station to fulfill the requirements of the plan. The plan included three main components: situation analysis, marketing objectives, and strategy development. After completion, the plans were submitted to the station.

Academic Service Learning is a method by which students learn and develop through active participation in organized service experiences that meet actual community needs. Students who have engaged in service learning are more competitive as they enter the workforce and as they apply for continued educational opportunities.
