Pioneer ShaRon Miller Named First-Team All American

Miller ends her Northland career ranked second in all-time scoring with 1,048 points.

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. - Northland Pioneer, ShaRon Miller, was named a First Team 2016-2017 NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball All-American. Miller was selected by the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee. She was one of only five players in the nation named to the First Team. This is her second consecutive year being named First-Team All American.

Miller (#53) was a 6' sophomore center for the Pioneers in 2016-2017. She joined the Pioneers after attending high school in Blaine, Minn. In addition to being named a 2016-2017 First Team All-American, she was also designated:

• 2017 NJCAA DIII All Tournament Selection
• 2016-2017 First Team All-Region XIII
• 2016-2017 First Team All-MCAC
• 2016-2017 First Team All-Northern Division

Miller ends her Northland career ranked 2nd in all-time scoring with 1,048 points. She is one of only two players to have surpassed the 1,000 career point threshold. With a career field goal percentage of 60.45%, she ranks 3rd in the record books. In addition to her scoring accomplishments, Miller is the 3rd ranked rebounding leader in Northland women’s basketball history, finishing her career with 564 total rebounds.

I put so much effort, work and love into these past two years. I couldn't have received any of these honors without my coaches and teammates.

"It is such a blessing (to be named First Team All-American for a second time). I put so much effort, work and love into these past two years. I couldn't have received any of these honors without my coaches and teammates,” said Miller. “It is the most amazing feeling to be recognized for simply doing what I love. I am so grateful."

Head coach, Shannon Nelson, added, "I couldn’t be more proud of all of ShaRon’s individual and team accomplishments over her two years at Northland. She is the first player in Northland women’s basketball history to be a two-time All-American, and was able to compete for a national championship her freshman season. When I first started recruiting her a couple years ago I knew she could be a dominant player in our league, but she surpassed all expectations I had for her. She has been a great representative of our program, and we wish her only the best in her future as a student-athlete."

ShaRon is planning on continuing her basketball career next year and will pursue a degree in communications.
