The Board of Trustees Educator of the Year award acknowledges and rewards exceptional professional accomplishment in teaching. Evaluation criteria include teaching strategies and materials; content expertise and professional growth; assessment of student learning and performance; and service to students, the profession, the institution, and the system.

"Northland is very proud to nominate Ruth Christensen for the BOT Educator of the Year award. She has distinguished herself from an exceptionally talented group of faculty and is exemplary representation of how we value learner centered teaching and our commitment to serving our students," added NCTC president Dr. Dennis Bona.

When asked the single most important thing she instills upon her students she said, "The most important thing I hope to communicate to my students is that I care about them. I believe that learning happens best in an environment where students feel valued and respected. Next, as an English instructor, my goal is to help my students learn to think critically and communicate effectively. These are the tools students will need to be successful in college, in their careers, and in their lives."

The winners of the system-wide award will be chosen in April 2017.
