NCTC Announces New Head Football Coach

Northland Community & Technical College has announced Jim Cox as the 10th head football coach in the history of NCTC football. A native of Bedford, Iowa, Cox comes to NCTC with a diverse coaching background, including experience at the interscholastic, junior college, four year, and professional indoor arena football levels.

Currently serving as a football consultant with Will Shields, Cox previously served as the Director of Operations/Head Football Coach for the River City Rage professional arena football team in the St. Louis metro area. Prior to professional indoor football, Cox served as the linebackers coach at Southeast Missouri State University (NCAA Division I).

From 2001-2004, Cox was the head football coach at William Penn University (IA). An NAIA affiliated institution, the Statesmen were the number two ranked pass defense in the country in 2002.

Also holding experience at the junior college level, Cox served as an assistant coach at Ellsworth Community College (IA). During his time at Ellsworth, the Panthers were national runner up in the NJCAA.

In the high school ranks, Cox won back-to-back state championships at Paton-Churdan high school in Churdan, IA in 1985 and 1986 as the head coach. Paton-Churdan was 30-1 over his last three years. During this time, Cox also won a state track championship.

Cox played his collegiate ball at Buena Vista University (IA). A defensive back, Cox led the program to their only playoff and bowl game in the school’s history.

Coach Cox is scheduled to begin his duties as the NCTC Pioneers head football coach on July 25, 2016.
