Northland Community & Technical College's Don Campbell has been recognized as an Advanced Level Instructor by Cisco. This award recognizes Don's achievements as one of the top 25% of instructors GLOBALLY through the Cisco Networking Academy. Don is a computer and network technology instructor at Northland. Don was one of two instructors in Minnesota to receive this level of recognition in 2014.
The award recognizes Don's professionalism in four areas: participation in professional development opportunities, attention to student needs, student performance, and his use of resources. Don has been a technology instructor since 1996 and helped stand up the computer and network technology program in 1997 when he came to Northland on a full-time basis. Before working at Northland, Don had a software development business in downtown Grand Forks, ND that was lost in the flood.
Students in Don’s classes within the computer and network technology and Cisco networking programs are prepared with the theoretical and practical knowledge to gain entry-level positions anywhere in the country. Students typically work for smaller companies locally but many have moved to larger cities that typically have larger IT companies associated with them. Students from the computer and network technology program accept many different positions after graduation. They can range from network administrators to service technicians. “A lot of industry has been calling me lately and are looking for info on students for possible jobs or internship opportunities," said Campbell. Employment projections for computer network support specialists are projected to grow by 10% in MN by 2020 and higher throughout the USA.
The Cisco networking certificate at Northland is a 14-credit certificate designed for those already in industry that want an additional certification to help bolster their resume or for students who wish to tack the additional certificate onto their A.A.S. degree to extend their employment opportunities as they enter the workforce. During the certificate program you will learn valuable technological skills and concepts that prepare you to test for the Cisco CCNA and CompTIA Network+ certification exams.
With 10,000 academies in 165 countries, the Cisco Networking Academy helps students prepare for industry-recognized certifications and entry-level information and communication technology (ICT) careers in virtually every industry. Students develop foundational proficiencies in ICT while obtaining vital 21st-century career skills.
