Northland’s Massage Therapy Students Offer Free Massages to Students Before Finals

Northland Community & Technical College’s Massage Therapy students offered free chair massages to students on Monday, Dec. 16 at Northland’s East Grand Forks campus. The free chair massages were open to anyone who wanted to ease the stress and tension associated with finals week. The Massage Therapy students travel from the Thief River Falls campus, where the program is located, to do this event annually.
According to Massage Therapy Program Director Tishara Melcher, “Massage eases stress and tension and can lead to clearer thinking. This is one of the main reasons we chose to come to the East Grand Forks campus on the last class day before finals. We hope all of the 55 students we touched aced their finals!” She continued, “This event gives the massage therapy students an opportunity to practice their chair massage skills in a new environment. By having them work on other students they get exposure to the different pathologies that exist. I also hope it helps to educate all students, faculty, and staff on the benefits of massage and encourages them to seek out regular massage to ease the stress of day-to-day life.”
Northland’s massage therapy program consists of 31 credits over two semesters. The program is designed for students interested in pursuing a professional career in massage therapy, or for health care providers looking to enhance their range of clinical skills and knowledge.
