Northland Community and Technical College has reached the decision to suspend its football program as of December 20, 2013. The decision was precipitated by the resignation of Head Coach Merle Johnson last week. Coach Johnson has accepted the head coaching position at another regional college.
This decision was reached after consideration of many factors by the college administration.
The college will examine the impact of the decision to determine if the program should be reinstated.
Thief River Falls Dean and Athletic Director Steve Crittenden emphasized that he is grateful to Coach Johnson for his exemplary work with the football team over the past three years. Northland Community and Technical College extends its best wishes to him in his new opportunity.
