Shane Zutz Named Alumnus of the Year

The Graduation Committee of Northland Community and Technical Colleges Thief River Falls campus has recently announced its 2011 Alumni of the Year selections. Ray Kuznia, Darryl Tveitbakk, and Shane Zutz, all of Thief River Falls, share Alumni of the Year honors.

Shane Zutz is a 1995 graduate of Northland Community College. While at Northland, he was a member of the baseball team. Zutz went on to earn his bachelors degree from Bemidji State University and his masters and specialist degrees from Mankato State University.

Zutz taught for three years at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls before moving on to the assistant principal position at Franklin. He continued in that position for nine years. He became the principal at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in the summer of 2009. He has twice been named Northern Division Assistant Principal of the Year.

During his time at the Thief River Falls public schools, Zutz has coached football and baseball. He was the head baseball coach for 10 years, leading the Prowlers to the state tournament for the first time in 50 years during the 2008 season. He now spends his time coaching at the youth levels in basketball and baseball.

I am very blessed to work in the Thief River Falls community, says Zutz. Northland helped me get off to a great start in my college education. It has been great working with NCTC to continue to provide opportunities for the students in our community.

Shane and his wife Mya have three sons, Tayton (12), Gunner (9), and Gannon (4).

Alumnus of the Year nominees are submitted by faculty, employees, and alumni of NCTC TRF and compiled and announced by the Campus Graduation Committee.
