The Northland Community and Technical College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Elwood Ehrenstrom Memorial Aviation Scholarship.

Shirley Ehrenstrom, Elwood's wife, along with family established the scholarship with memorial gifts and family contributions. A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded fall semester 2009 to an Aviation Maintenance Technology student attending the Thief River Falls campus.

Elwood Ehrenstrom became the manager of the Thief River Falls Regional Airport in May of 1957. He operated his own shop to rebuild and repair small airplanes which laid the ground work for the beginning of the current Aviation Maintenance Technology program at the Northland Community & Technical College Airport campus.

Elwood was the instructor for the first three classes of the AMT program which is now celebrating its 50th Anniversary. In addition to repairing airplanes, Elwood had a great love of flying. He was an accomplished pilot, owning several of his own planes.
