Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) enables patrons to borrow materials from other libraries. Patrons must have a valid NCTC library card before initiating a request.

Books and photocopies of articles are the primary type of material ordered through interlibrary loan. Photocopies of periodical articles must be requested in accordance with the copyright laws. Other types of materials such as theses, dissertations, newspapers on microfilm or videotapes may be obtained depending upon the loan policies of the lending library.

When requesting materials, please supply accurate and complete bibliographic information and allow enough time for the material to be send. Typically, about seven days is needed to process requests and receive them. The library does not attempt to notify on-campus patrons when requests are received. Off-campus patrons will be notified when material arrives if they have included an e-mail address with their request.

The loan period and renewal options are determined by the lending library. The loan period is usually about four weeks. Photocopies may be kept by the requestor. Some lending libraries may specify special conditions regarding the use of their materials, such as No Renewals or In Library Use Only. These conditions will be enforced.

To obtain materials through interlibrary loan, either fill out a request form in the library, fill in the online form below, or copy and paste the requested citation into an e-mail to either librarian. Make sure you include the source in which you found the reference and the date "needed by". On campus, if you are ordering from a PALS record, you may simply make a printout of the record, write your name and barcode number on it and turn it in to the librarian.
