Welcome to COI

Northland Community & Technical College offers employee training in a broad range of areas designed to meet common business and organizational challenges. For some employer needs, a standard training package works best; however, we specialize in customizing or creating new training tailored to an employer's workforce, timeline, industry, or business plan. Training is delivered at your site, on campus, or online.

The customized training and continuing education division of Northland stands ready to serve the educational and professional growth needs of organizations and individuals. In 2009, we served over 160 companies and 4610 individuals. We have full time, experienced staff to serve our region with numerous specialties in the areas listed below. In addition, we can accommodate a variety of customized training topics in areas that are not listed below through our adjunct staff.

Message from the Dean

The Center for Outreach and Innovation (COI) at Northland Community and Technical College is committed to helping your business create demand-driven, workforce education solutions which offer immediate impact to your organizations’ bottom line. As a member of the broader community, we are dedicated to the economic prosperity of the entire region of northwest Minnesota, and a well-educated and skilled workforce contributes to that prosperity.

Through our customized training division, we continue to develop workforce training solutions derived from our industry experience tailored to your changing needs. We offer a wide range of expertise in the education and implementation of lean manufacturing, lean administration, lean healthcare, quality and Six Sigma, Training Within Industry, and much more. We work directly with fire departments and mining operations to ensure that certifications and credentials are up-to-date. In addition, we offer credit and non-credit courses and programs in APICS Certification, MSSC Certification, Commercial Vehicle Operations, motorcycle training, first aid/CPR, and Certified Nurse Assistant to name a few.

Along with our in-house expertise, NCTC continues its ongoing partnership with 360 Degrees, a Manufacturing and Applied Engineering Center of Excellence at Bemidji State University, along with eight other MnSCU institutions statewide. We continue our leadership role in the Coalition for Continuous Improvement in Healthcare (CCIH), and have begun an exciting new relationship with the University of North Dakota, Office of Workforce Development. Through these strategic partnerships COI is able to offer a variety of educational opportunities in both a traditional and on-line format.

Today, organizations know that success and innovation don’t just happen. Smart leaders encourage innovation, strategic thinking, and meaningful contributions both in and out of the workplace. Our leadership training staff are some of the best and brightest in the industry. As COI continues to expand the Strength-Based Leadership Academy and professional one-on-one, certified coaching opportunities, more organizations are realizing the value that well rounded individuals, focused on strengths, contribute to their overall success.

More than ever today, it pays to be a lifelong learner, which is why COI offers a wide variety of (non credit) learning opportunities through our continuing education division. These courses are affordable and made available around today’s demanding schedules. Please check back often, as we periodically update our Continuing Ed. course offerings.
