In June of 2001, a $383,000 grant opportunity was awarded to Polaris Industries, Roseau, Minnesota, to develop cellular manufacturing and a continuous improvement culture within their organization in partnership with Northland Community and Technical College. Polaris Industries identified a need within their organization for employee development as they continue to expand and continuously improve to increase their production capacity and support mixed-model production. They have also expanded their facility and re-designed the facility to support the lean manufacturing concepts of cellular manufacturing, mixed model production, and quick changeover production. Polaris will be utilizing the book “20 Keys to Workplace Improvement” by Iwao Kobayashi, Productivity Press, 1995, as a basis for their training.
