Northwest Manufacturing: Continuous Improvement
Visit Northwest Manufacturing online at www.woodmaster.com

Northwest Manufacturing Inc. located in Red Lake Falls, MN manufactures high quality, high efficiency outdoor wood burning furnaces for residential and commercial applications under the Woodmaster® brand name. The company also markets and distributes a variety of related accessories and systems for the outdoor wood furnace and in-floor heating industry. With the recent upsurge in demand for their products, a need existed within the company to develop their incumbent workforce as they continue to expand and improve their production capacity.

In February 2002, Northland College and Northwest Manufacturing Inc, formed a training partnership to enhance employee skills to develop a workforce geared towards continuous improvement. By investing in workforce development, Northwest Manufacturing has determined they will be able to achieve the following goals:

  • Reduce/eliminate wasteful operations, and the use of non value-adding time.
  • Achieve higher quality standards in a total quality environment.
  • Develop an empowered workforce focused on continuous improvement.
  • Implement a system of standardized operating procedures and workplace organization.
  • This $100,000 MJSP Grant will impact over 60 employees
