Merle Johnson takes over as Northland’s Football and Softball Coach

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MINN. (December 13, 2010) –Northland’s Dean of Student Development, Steve Crittenden announced today that Merle Johnson has accepted the position of head football and softball coach at Northland Community & Technical College. Crittenden stated, “We are very pleased to have Coach Johnson taking over the leadership of our football and softball programs. He has a good knowledge base of coaching and teaching at the college level.” In addition to his coaching duties he will serve as an instructor in the HPER department.

In regards to his new position, Merle commented," I am very excited to be the next Pioneer head football and softball coach and look forward to leading our programs into the future.”

Coach Johnson brings nearly 20 years of collegiate coaching and teaching experience to Northland. Some of his prior collegiate experiences include working at NDSU, MSU-Moorehead, BSU, and Mayville State University. Merle has a Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education and is currently working toward a doctoral degree in Exercise Science from NDSU.
