Fynboh joins wrestling staff at Northland

Thief River Falls native Kevin Fynboh is returning to his hometown to join the wrestling coaching staff as an assistant coach at Northland Community & Technical College.
“Kevin is a great addition to our program at Northland,” said NCTC Head Wrestling Coach Scott DCamp. “I have had several opportunities to work with Kevin over the years. He is a tireless worker and is dedicated to building a successful program.”
Fynboh spent the previous four seasons at perennial North Dakota power West Fargo. He was an assistant coach under Kayle Dangerud for two seasons and served as head coach the past two seasons, coaching nine Packers to state championships.
Overall, during Fynboh’s four years with the West Fargo program, 39 wrestlers reached the medal stand at the Class A state tournament, with 16 wrestlers winning state titles.
“It's been a goal of mine to coach at the college level since I graduated college, so this is a great opportunity to get my foot in the door,” Fynboh said. “I had a great experience in West Fargo and am very grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing student-athletes and a great community.
“I learned a lot and it has helped prepare me to handle the challenges of coaching at the collegiate level. This opportunity excites me because of the entire process of building a program, which starts with recruiting. I'm excited to be able to recruit and bring in quality kids, both on and off the mat, to help keep improving the path of the Pioneer program.”
Fynboh is a 2013 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, where he majored in social studies education. He was a four-year starter and letter winner for the Cobbers from 2010-13 and he was a national qualifier in 2013.
During his prep career, Fynboh was a six-year letter (2004-09) winner and four-time state qualifier (2006-09) and Class AA state champion (2009) for Thief River Falls.
Fynboh joins a Northland coaching staff that has produced 12 NJCAA national qualifiers, three NJCAA All-Americans, and two MCAC runner-up finishes in the four years since it debuted.
“I believe Scott has done a tremendous job with the program in the first four years and I look forward to helping bring Northland to the next level,” Fynboh said. “I think our goals and philosophies are similar. With that said, I want to bring in quality kids that are excited to be here, are good leaders, and hard workers. In doing so, I believe we can consistently produce All-Americans, which will give us a great shot at winning a team national title, which is my ultimate goal. It's going to be a challenge, but I look forward to it.”
