Northland Pioneer Crystal Amundson Named First Team All-American

Northland Pioneer, Crystal Amundson, was named a First Team 2014-15 NJCAA DIII Women’s Basketball All-American. The two-year women’s basketball Pioneer captain led the team in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage and field goal percentage this season. Amundson was one of five players in the nation to receive the honor and the only player in Minnesota selected.

Amundson (#15) is a 6’ sophomore forward for the Pioneers. She was a local recruit for the Pioneers, who went to high school in Thief River Falls, Minn. In addition to being named a 2014-15 First Team All-American, she was also designated:
• 2015 First Team All-Division and All-Region
• 2014 NJCAA DIII All Tournament Selection
• 2014 Second Team All-Division and All-Region

In her career with the Pioneers, Amundson had 833 points, 488 rebounds, 21 double-doubles and an overall record of 52 wins and 4 losses. According to Northland Pioneers women’s basketball coach Shannon Nelson, “It has been such an honor to be able to coach Crystal over the past two seasons. Her leadership, work ethic, and love of the game has been contagious with her teammates and coaches. She is very deserving of this recognition and I am so proud of all she has done for Northland Pioneers Women’s Basketball.”

After Northland, Amundson plans to major in pre-med and attend Concordia College in Moorhead next year as a member of the Cobbers women’s basketball team.
