Personal:

Steve Gust begins his fourth year as the Northland baseball coach after leading the Pioneers to three consecutive winning seasons.

The Pioneers have advanced to three consecutive Minnesota Community Conference state tournaments after posting 20 win regular seasons in Gust’s first three years. Gust was named Northern Division coach of the year in 2005.

In addition to leading the Pioneers, Gust spends his summers coaching the East Grand Forks American Legion team. Set to begin his 13th season, Gust has guided his team to 11 Tony Sipe League championships and five District 9 titles. His EGF teams have won nearly 500 games and posted winning seasons the last 11 years.

Gust was a high school coach at Sacred Heart before accepting the Northland coaching position. He was the first-ever coach at the school. In his eight years, Gust helped the Eagles win four conference titles and three subsection championships. The Eagles were a combined 132-29 in Gust’s tenure. He was named coach of the year on three separate occasions.

Gust then went on to assist the University of North Dakota baseball team. In his one-year stint under head coach Kelvin Ziegler, the Fighting Sioux finished 38-16 and qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament.

Gust graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in physical education and coaching. He has a three-year old son, Tommy John.

Coaching Experience:
- Terry has coached 7 years as the Assistant Baseball Coach and has been the Head Baseball Coach for 9 years at Northland Community & Technical College .
- Terry has also been an Assistant Football Coach at NCTC for 17 years.
- 3 years Head Football Coach, assistant track in Wishek North Dakota.
- 5 years Head Girls Basketball Coach, Assistant Boys Basketball Coach in Central Valley High School in Buxton ND.
- Coached summer baseball in Thief River Falls, MN. for 13 years.
 
Personal:

Terry Wiseth brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Pioneer baseball program. Wiseth is a former head coach and a long-time assistant for the Northland baseball team. He also is a veteran assistant coach for the Pioneer football team.

Wiseth earned his associate degree at Itasca, a bachelor’s degree at Dana College and a masters at NDSU. His is currently a biology and anataomy instructor at Northland. He is a long time youth baseball coach in Thief River Falls.

Wiseth and his wife, Darlene, have five children: daughters Stephanie and Sallie; and sons Steven, Stacy and Spencer.

Keith Blattenbauer

Keith Blatenbauer begins his first year as an assistant coach for the Pioneer baseball team. A Detroit Lakes native, Blattenbauer was a standout baseball player for the Lakers high school and Legion teams. He was a two-year all-conference outfielder/pitcher, a Lion’s all-star participant and  two-time MVP of the Legion team. Blattenbauer then went on to play college ball at Fergus Falls Community College, helping Spartans to the state title his freshman year.

Blattenbauer’s coaching resume includes being an assistant with the Detroit Lakes Lakers for three years before taking the helm the last three seasons.

Blattenbauer’s main responsibilities this year will be as a hitting and outfield coach.

Blattenbauer holds an associate degree in sales and marketing.

 

 

     Will Leetch

    

Leetch is in his third year as an assistant coach with Pioneer baseball team. He is a former All-Northern Division catcher at Northland. Leetch graduated from Roseau High School before becoming an award winning football and baseball player at the college. He earned an AA degree in liberal arts in 2006. Leetch is in charge of the Pioneer catchers.
